Update on young Sunderland player's future: good decision for everyone involved?

Sunderland have made a major announcement regarding Jenson Jones' future on their official website. The club announced that the English winger has signed a new two-year contract, guaranteeing his stay at the club beyond this summer. Jones, who came through Sunderland's youth teams, has yet to play for the first team, but has stood out on a few occasions with the under-21 team. The 20-year-old has already made 63 appearances for the under-21s, scoring three goals and contributing eight assists in various competitions.


Considered one of the most promising young full-backs in English football, Sunderland made a good deal in keeping their rights to the player. Jones has the potential to become a star at the Stadium of Light in the long term, making extending his contract a wise decision this offseason. He is known for his good tackles and for being able to intercept opponent's moves, as well as not hesitating to remove pressure when the opposing team attacks. Although he is a right-back by nature, Jones can also play as a midfielder or left-back if requested by the coach.
