Brobbey shines in Holland's victory: 'Máxima said she was happy for me'

Brian Brobbey was the big name for the Netherlands in the impressive 5-1 victory over Sweden. The striker, who plays for Sunderland, was a surprise in coach Ronald Koeman's lineup, but ended up proving to be the perfect choice. In just seventeen minutes, Brobbey found the net twice, repaying the trust he received from the coach. "I managed to show myself to the coach and the team. This is very gratifying", commented Brobbey in the changing rooms after the match.

The striker also made history by scoring the Netherlands' 100th World Cup goal. "It's really cool. To be honest, I didn't know, but it's something special," he said characteristically and humbly.


After the game, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and Princess Ariane visited the locker room and congratulated Brobbey. "They were very happy for us. They said I did well and we took a nice photo. Máxima also seemed happy, she said I did a good job.
