Daichi Kamada close to new contract with Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace midfielder Daichi Kamada is close to signing a new contract with the club as he stars in the 2026 World Cup with Japan.

Crystal Palace midfielder Daichi Kamada is one step closer to renewing his contract with the club. Kamada's current contract expires at the end of June, but all indications are that he is likely to remain at Palace, with final discussions taking place over the length of the new contract. The 29-year-old spent the last two years at Palace after joining the club for free, becoming the first Japanese player in the team's history. Oliver Glasner, who worked with him at Eintracht Frankfurt, played a key role in his move to London in the summer of 2024, shortly after being appointed Palace manager.
In a press conference ahead of the Conference League quarter-final second leg against Fiorentina, Kamada, who will turn 30 in August, stated that he has not yet decided his future: “I really don't know about my future and I haven't decided anything yet,” he said. "I really want to know about my future, but I'm focused on every Palace game. So, I don't know." With Glasner leaving at the end of his contract this month, there were doubts about Kamada remaining, but he now looks set to extend his time in London.

So far, Kamada has made 89 appearances across all competitions across two seasons, scoring three goals and providing eight assists, becoming a crucial part of Palace's squad despite a slow start. The Japanese international is currently playing in the World Cup, where he has already scored a late equalizer on his debut against the Netherlands (2-2) and an early goal in the 4-0 victory over Tunisia.
Keeping Kamada would be a huge boost for Palace, as he is a key player in the team's midfield. The team has a relatively stable squad and keeping as many players together as possible will help significantly under Pierre Sage's new management. Kamada's experience of winning the Europa League with Eintracht in 2022 will also be valuable in Palace's European campaign next season, just as it was in winning the Conference League last season. His absence due to a muscle problem in the winter was felt, but he quickly became an important player again upon his return, finding his rhythm again. Keeping Kamada would be a huge boost for the new season.
