Elanga and Wissa: World Cup promises could shine at Newcastle next season
Newcastle players Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa put in a positive performance at the World Cup, scoring five goals between them, which brings hope that they can finally break through next season after initial struggles at the club.

The Premier League transfer window can be marked by ups and downs, and Newcastle United's experience last season is a clear example of this. Despite having invested more than £100 million, many of the new additions failed to live up to expectations, except for a few like Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimarães. Now, after an encouraging World Cup performance, Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa could be ready to turn things around next season.
Manager Eddie Howe expressed confidence in the signings, stating: "I believe in all these players. I think they will excel." Elanga and Wissa's performances at the international tournament could be the boost they needed. Between them, they scored five World Cup goals, the same number they managed during the entirety of last season at Newcastle.

Elanga, who came on as a substitute in Sweden's match against the Netherlands, scored quickly after entering the field. His confidence grew, and in his next game against Japan he also made his mark. Despite Sweden's elimination in the group stage, he demonstrated that he can be a decisive player. "He's the kind of player who can change a game," said Emil Krafth, a former teammate at Newcastle and the Swedish national team.
On the other hand, Wissa had a difficult start to last season, struggling to adapt following a £55m move from Brentford as well as dealing with injury. However, he also excelled at the World Cup, scoring DR Congo's first ever goal at the tournament and helping his country reach the round of 16 for the first time. "I didn't show my best side at Newcastle, but I knew my time would come," commented Wissa during the competition.
If both players can bring this new confidence to Newcastle, next season could be very different to the one they have had. The fans are eagerly awaiting this return, betting that Elanga and Wissa can finally shine at St James' Park, bringing positive results for the team.
