Everson highlights Galo’s priority for the second half of the year
Everson, the Atlético Mineiro captain, emphasizes the club's focus on improving its performance in the Brasileirão while also competing in the Copa do Brasil and Copa Sudamericana.
Atlético Mineiro advanced to the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil and is awaiting its opponent in the same stage of the Copa Sudamericana. The team is looking for these titles, but with a well-defined objective: recovering in the Brasileirão, which is considered the priority after disappointing campaigns in 2024 and 2025.
In an interview with Itatiaia, goalkeeper Everson, Galo's new captain, made it clear what the mentality is for the second half of the season: "Now we need to work so that in this second part of the championship we can win more points, which is something we have been demanding of ourselves in the last two years. This year, internally, the Brasileirão is Atlético's priority — having a good campaign and guaranteeing a place in the Libertadores. We are prioritizing the Brazilian Championship."
At the same time that the national tournament is the main focus, the club's idol recalled the knockout finals that Galo reached. "We know we can have a better campaign, but we also know that in the two years we've been here in the league, we've reached three finals out of four possible in cup competitions, so it's a question of balancing things."
Atlético returns to the field on the 21st of this month, when they will face Bahia. The match is valid for the 19th round of the Brasileirão, and the Arena MRV will be the stage for the confrontation. With 24 points, Galo occupies ninth place in the table. Vasco, with 20 points, is the first team in the relegation zone.
