Liverpool gets big boost with rivals out of contention for 'powerful' Jacobo Ramon

Liverpool gets big boost with rivals out of contention for 'powerful' Jacobo Ramon

Liverpool's defense is one of the areas most in need of updating this season. Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson were almost the only defenders who performed well last season and with the latter gone, it is clear that a lot of work needs to be done. Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet are two options Liverpool have at their disposal, but with neither of them having played in the Premier League and they are still young, there is concern over whether they have what it takes to partner Van Dijk.

This sparked rumors about the club's future, and now it appears that Richard Hughes and Andoni Iraola may have found the perfect player for them. Liverpool have received a boost in their pursuit of Jacobo Ramon as Chelsea have dropped out of contention. Jacobo Ramon is one of the reasons why Como qualified for the Champions League next season. The Serie A side finished the league in fourth place, with players like Nico Paz and Ramon standing out as some of the best in Italian football.

The duo were signed from Real Madrid and proved their worth. Liverpool have been interested in the Spanish defender for some time, who is also being followed by other clubs. However, an update from Spanish outlet Fichajes has reported that one of Liverpool's rivals for the player has now dropped out of the running.

Ramon was instrumental in ensuring the Italian team's qualification for the Champions League. He is a free agent until 2030 and is also being watched by other Premier League powerhouses such as Arsenal and Liverpool. However, Chelsea's search for him has come to an end. Jacobo Ramon may be young, but he could be the ideal partner for Virgil van Dijk. Like Jacquet and Leoni, Ramon is only 21 years old. And, even though fans would probably prefer an experienced defender alongside Van Dijk, the fact that Carlo Ancelotti has previously called Ramon a 'powerful' player proves just how good he really is.

Its stats are also quite impressive; he won 113 aerial duels in Serie A last season, which equates to around 66.9% of all those he attempted. The defender also made 226 defensive contributions and won 182 of the ground duels he attempted, approximately 60.9%. His passing accuracy is also notable, with 91.4% of his passes reaching the right destination. There isn't much the Spaniard can't do and, depending on how much Como asks for him, it looks like Liverpool should invest everything they can into bringing in Ramon this summer.
