Mbappé: "I know quality, but a double doesn't show everything I can do"

Kylian Mbappé, France captain, commented in a press conference about the pressure of the World Cup and his role on the field, highlighting that a good performance does not sum up all his talent.

Mbappé: "I know quality, but a double doesn't show everything I can do"

On the eve of the clash against Iraq, Kylian Mbappé, captain of the French team, participated in a press conference to preview the match that will take place in the 2026 World Cup, at Lincoln Financial Field, in Philadelphia. During the conversation, he highlighted: "There are moments that define football culture. Winning teams always inspire current football. Whoever wins is always right. Since I started my career, we have been encouraged to copy Barça's style of play, then Real Madrid, and now PSG's counter-pressing. Those who win always inspire others."

Mbappé also spoke about the evolution of the French team: "We are in continuity. In terms of play, we are more offensive than in 2018 and 2022. The group has remained together since the beginning of our coach's work (Deschamps). The arrival of new talents is fundamental. The road is long, but we are heading in the right direction to achieve our goals. A World Cup is always unpredictable."

When asked about his favorite position on the field, the striker replied: "I don't know. I'm feeling good at the moment, but that's not related to my position. I'm fine mentally and physically. The position isn't that important; what matters is the dynamics of the game. We need to be a team that imposes its style. I feel good in all three attacking positions."

Concluding the press conference, Mbappé shared his reflections on his World Cup debut: "I feel like I'm a player who is representing his country at a World Cup. I'm trying to make history for my nation and also taking advantage of the luck of playing in competitions like this. I know I have quality, but I don't think scoring two goals in the first match is enough to show the full extent of my talent on the big stage."
