Mikel Oyarzabal dismisses rumors about Barcelona: ‘I’m very happy at Real Sociedad’
Mikel Oyarzabal has brushed aside transfer rumors to FC Barcelona, reaffirming his commitment to Real Sociedad as he focuses on Spain's World Cup campaign.
Mikel Oyarzabal tried to minimize the speculations that link him to FC Barcelona, ensuring that he remains fully committed to Real Sociedad. The striker was mentioned as a possible option to replace Robert Lewandowski at the Catalan club, following his outstanding performances at the World Cup.
In an interview with El Partidazo on COPE (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Oyarzabal made his position clear. When asked about the rumors regarding Barcelona's interest, he reaffirmed his attachment to the club where he spent his entire professional career. "I've already said that I'm very happy at Real Sociedad," he said.
"For me, it was a home, a place where they supported me even in the most difficult moments, when I was at my worst. Thanks to Real Sociedad, I'm here. That's it," he added. The 29-year-old declined to go into further detail, emphasizing that his priority is to stay focused on the upcoming World Cup round of 16 game against Portugal rather than discussing his future at the club.
Oyarzabal has been one of Spain's standout performers during the tournament, which has sparked new speculation about his future. However, his latest comments suggest any transfer talk will take a backseat as he focuses on helping Spain progress in the competition.
For now, the striker's message is clear: his attention is focused on the World Cup, and he remains happy at Real Sociedad. As for Barcelona, their priority target to replace Lewandowski this summer remains Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez. However, the Rojiblancos' firm stance that the Argentine is not for sale this summer, despite his confession about wanting to leave, makes the situation quite complicated. If a move for Alvarez does not materialize, Oyarzabal could emerge as a more realistic target for Barcelona. He already knows the demands of La Liga, has valuable experience and has demonstrated rapport with some Blaugrana stars whilst playing for the national team. However, for now, the striker is not thinking about the rumors and is keeping his focus on the World Cup with Spain.
