Militao awaits return to training with Mourinho: ‘I’m looking forward to returning’

Vinicius Jr. and Endrick are representing Real Madrid in the Brazilian team at the ongoing World Cup, but they should have been accompanied by two more players: Rodrygo and Eder Militao. While Rodrygo suffered a devastating anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, Militao faced a thigh injury just as he appeared to be regaining form following previous injuries. The defender underwent surgery and was thus left out of the squad for the World Cup — something that would have been guaranteed for him if he had maintained his physical shape.

In a recent interview, Eder Militao spoke about Real Madrid, his return and Brazil's chances in the World Cup. He was asked about the club's new defensive signings and whether he saw it as a threat to his position in the team. Militao welcomed the new signings: "Everyone comes to help, they are great players. It's great that these key players come to Real Madrid," he began, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.


When asked about José Mourinho, the new coach, who he will work with once he returns from his injury, Militao said: "People know his story, he is one of the best coaches in the world. I'm looking forward to coaching again, to have the opportunity to work with him."

Finally, the player spoke about Brazil's performance in the World Cup so far. "Everything is fine, they grew during the competition. In each game, the players are evolving and that was clear to everyone." Militao continues to strive to return as soon as possible and there is hope that he can return at the start of the new season. Real Madrid do not expect him to be back on the pitch until October, two months after the start of the new season. After that, he will be reinstated carefully to avoid further relapses. When he returns, the new coach will probably already have an established starting defensive duo, which will make it more complicated for him to immediately regain his position in the starting lineup.
