Nagelsmann praises Hansi Flick's work at Barcelona: 'The team developed perfectly'
Julian Nagelsmann highlights Barcelona's evolution under Hansi Flick, highlighting their success in Spain and their unhappiness in the Champions League.
Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann was full of praise for Hansi Flick and Barcelona, saying the Catalan team's progress under his predecessor had been "perfect". According to him, the Champions League elimination was more due to misfortune than the team's failures.
Speaking ahead of Germany's World Cup clash with Ivory Coast in Toronto, Nagelsmann was in a relaxed mood following his side's impressive 7-1 victory over Curaçao. The 38-year-old, who succeeded Flick at Bayern Munich and then the German national team, spoke warmly about his compatriot and long-time colleague.
Asked about the influence of German coaches such as Jürgen Klopp and Flick, Nagelsmann chose not to reveal tactical details, but made a point of praising Barcelona's development. "We have a lot of very good German coaches, like Jürgen and Hansi," said Nagelsmann, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
He continued: "I think Barcelona developed perfectly; they had bad luck in the Champions League, they got that red card (against Atlético) and that complicated their chances of progressing to the next round. But they were champions again in Spain and did a brilliant job."

Nagelsmann's comments refer to Barcelona's controversial quarter-final defeat to Atlético Madrid, a clash marred by the expulsions of Pau Cubarsi in the first leg and Eric Garcia in the second leg.
Nagelsmann's career has mirrored Flick's in many ways. He took over at Bayern Munich when Flick left the club in 2021, and two years later replaced him as coach of the German national team following the end of his time in charge of the national team.
Despite being one of the most respected coaches in world football, Nagelsmann was reluctant to discuss tactical concepts in detail, joking that some ideas should remain secret. "As for discussing tactical matters, I'm not sure he wants me to do that because it might be a secret for him," he said.
"And it should also be a secret for the future; now is not the time, let another coach talk about technical issues," added Nagelsmann. For him, Barcelona's success in the national league under Flick was no coincidence. In the coach's view, the Blaugrana have progressed exactly as intended under their compatriot, with only unfortunate circumstances preventing an even greater season in Europe.
