Niko Williams: A Year Full of Challenges

Niko Williams, striker for Athletic Bilbao and the Spanish National Team, opened up about a year full of challenges in his career. According to him, he previously had harmful habits that affected his performance on the field. "I used to leave Lezama and not worry about training anymore. Now, I dedicate a lot more time to it. I exchanged the second half of my day, which I used to spend with friends and my girlfriend, for a total focus on my career", revealed Williams in an interview with Mundo Deportivo newspaper. "My mother, my girlfriend, three friends and my brother were instrumental in supporting me during this period. It was really a very difficult year," he added.  In addition to personal issues, Niko also went through a difficult time in his career due to an injury to his right thigh, which occurred during the group stage game of the 2026 World Cup against the Uruguayan National Team, where Spain emerged victorious 1-0. This injury raised concerns about his participation in the subsequent stages of the tournament, but the expectation is that he can still help the team, depending on how the Spanish National Team advances.
