Riccardo Calafiori is one of the players who stood out in Roma's youth system and managed to establish himself in the main scene. The former Giallorossi defender won the Premier League with Arsenal this year and lost the Champions League final on penalties against PSG (a game in which he was an unused substitute). Before wearing the Arsenal shirt, the 2002-born athlete was sold by Mourinho and Pinto from Roma to Basel for just over €2 million, maintaining a 40% interest in the future sale. He subsequently transferred to Bologna, and the Giallorossi earned €1.5 million. However, an impasse has emerged over the additional €9 million Roma requested from the Swiss club. The Rossoblu sold Calafiori for €43 million, and half of that money, almost €22 million, ended up in Basel's coffers. According to the contract between the capital club and the Swiss club, any proceeds from the sale of the 2002-born player were to be paid to Roma at 40%. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Giallorossi and Basel have reached an agreement over the future resale of Riccardo Calafiori. The Swiss club will pay the club approximately €6 million. The loss of an extraordinary player who grew up through his youthful ranks continues to be a matter of mourning.
