Croatian icon Davor Suker believes Luka Modric will make a return to Real Madrid this summer after spending just one season at AC Milan. Modric left Madrid at the end of the 2024-25 season, ending a brilliant 13-year cycle at the Santiago Bernabéu. During that time, he won four LaLiga titles, six Champions Leagues, five UEFA Super Cups and five FIFA Club World Cups, totaling 28 major honours. In total, he made 597 appearances for Madrid, accumulating 88 assists, a number surpassed only by Toni Kroos (93) and Karim Benzema (118) in that period.

When Modric joined Milan last July, he signed a one-year contract with the option of an additional one. However, the club failed to qualify for the Champions League after a late-season slump, which led to a major overhaul, including the dismissal of Massimiliano Allegri. Some reports have suggested that the Croatia captain could even retire after the World Cup, but Suker still expects Modric to return to Madrid, whether on the pitch or in another role.

"Now you will ask me if he will stay at Milan or return to Madrid. I think something will happen with Real Madrid," Suker told Radio Marca, as quoted by Football Italia. "For sure, he will come back, but I don't know how. Let's wait for the World Cup to end and see what happens. I can't say more, I can't say more. Leave something in the air; I can't say everything."
