Mexican fans in England talk about the World Cup game
Mexican fans in England express mixed emotions as they prepare for the World Cup game against England, highlighting familiar divisions and support for both teams.

Mexican fans living in England have emotions running high as the game between Mexico and England in the round of 16 of the World Cup approaches. Carlos Riestra-Castro, from Lewes in East Sussex, supports his home country but admits the match "divided the family" as his two English-born sons support the Three Lions. Rafael Onate, from Guildford in Surrey, also has mixed feelings: "My heart is completely 50/50, but I'm going to support Mexico." The game will be held in Mexico City at 01:00 BST on Monday. Riestra-Castro, a native of Guadalajara, comments that "anything can happen at the Estadio Azteca", but predicts a Mexico victory on penalties. "I feel so honored and proud when both teams play and win, and I accept the defeats too, both are heavy," he adds. "I see the positive side that whoever wins will be a victory for all of us." He says Mexico is "inspired" and has "nothing to lose" but believes both sides need "a moment of magic that could change the life of a nation." Onate, who is originally from Mexico City, admits to being "a little nervous, a little confused, but the feeling is still there for both countries." "It's a strange feeling, but we need to support Mexico. Sorry!" He predicted a 3-2 victory for the host country and plans to watch the game in his restaurant alongside other Mexican fans. "It's more exciting because you know everyone is against you," says the restaurateur, who has lived in the UK for 27 years. His daughter, born in England to a Mexican mother and Ecuadorian father, also plans to support Mexico. "It's a mix of feelings, but the blood is from South America and America, so we must support our team", he adds. Despite this, he stated that he would support England "300%" if they progressed. Rodrigo De La Barrera, who lived in England for seven years and was back in the country by chance for the match, plans to watch the game with his family. He explained that he supports England "in every other game". The Guadalajara resident concluded, "At the end of the day, it's just a game and we're going to have fun no matter who wins. I'm just going to enjoy it. It's a special occasion to get together again." Catalina Gomez, who lives in Eastbourne, is hoping for a 2-0 win for her home country. "I'll be happy if my country wins, but at the same time, it's okay if I don't win, I'll also be happy if it's England, because this is my home now," he said. The winner of Monday's game will face either Brazil or Norway in the quarter-finals on Saturday.
