Koeman's tactical leadership in the challenge of the Dutch national team
Ronald Koeman highlights the importance of his tactical leadership as the Netherlands team faces challenges on the field, highlighting the difficulty of self-sufficient strategies during games.

Ronald Koeman realizes that his team still has a lot to improve in the tactical aspect. The coach increasingly takes control and, according to Tijjani Reijnders, this is already starting to bear fruit. Previously, Koeman had relied on the self-awareness of his players, but after Sweden switched to a 5-4-1 formation shortly after the first hydration break, keeping the full-backs back and widening the gaps on the Dutch side, the coach had to intervene at half-time. The entry of Crysencio Summerville in place of Donyell Malen resolved the situation, as the West Ham United striker managed to overcome these distances. "It's easy to talk about self-sufficiency, but it can be very difficult on the field," commented Reijnders on VI PRO. "We have players with different views on football, so it's good that we've been clear about what we expect in certain situations. If the opponent plays with four defenders, we know exactly how we want to respond to that." This makes it easier to react to any changes from your opponent during a hydration break. "Now everything is clear, but to get to this point, we had to go through some difficult phases against Japan and Sweden. The difference is that on those occasions we managed to escape our mistakes and the spaces we left. If that happens against a high-level opponent, we will be punished immediately.", he concluded.
