Cavani says goodbye to Boca Juniors amid regrets
Edinson Cavani ended his experience with Boca Juniors, signing the termination of his contract after three seasons marred by injuries and disappointments.

Edinson Cavani has officially ended his troubled spell at Boca Juniors. The 39-year-old Uruguayan striker signed today the consensual termination of his contract, putting an end to his relationship with the Argentine club after three seasons lived between high expectations, physical problems and disappointing results. The decision was taken after weeks of conversations between the player and the Xeneize board, who had begun to reflect on his role due to the long series of injuries and frequent absences. In particular, a persistent lower back injury that affected him throughout 2025 considerably reduced his contribution on the field. In 2026, Cavani made only two official appearances: time on the field against Platense and a starting match against Racing, in which he was substituted before the final whistle and was also challenged by the public. These numbers reflect a final phase of experience increasingly on the margins. Arriving in 2023 with great enthusiasm, the former PSG player experienced a difficult first year, but recovered his continuity in 2024, with a season of 20 goals in 39 matches, the most productive of his Argentine adventure. Unfortunately, his performance did not return to those levels. Cavani leaves Boca without trophies won and with the regret of the Copa Libertadores final lost against Fluminense in 2023. A farewell that ends a chapter expected, but never completely realized.
