Haaland increases his international record with another goal
Erling Haaland continues to impress on the international stage, scoring two goals in Norway's final World Cup match, cementing his status as Norway's top scorer in World Cup history.
Norwegian star Erling Haaland doesn't stop scoring! The Manchester City striker guided his team towards a possible third appearance in the round of 16 of the World Cup. Despite a frustrating first half, where Norway was just one goal ahead, Haaland stood out in the second half, scoring two goals in less than ten minutes, in the 48th and 58th minutes, after a beautiful assist. With these two goals, he has already scored an impressive 59 goals in 52 matches for the Norwegian national team, becoming Norway's top scorer in World Cup history, surpassing Kjetil Rekdal, who scored just one goal in the 1994 and 1998 editions.
Haaland now joins a select group of just six players in World Cup history who have scored multiple goals in their first two appearances, alongside the likes of Guillermo Stabile, Sándor Kocsis, Just Fontaine, Grzegorz Lato and Harry Kane. The striker has performed impressively, scoring at least two goals in his last six competitive games for Norway and finding the net in 12 of the team's last 21 matches.
Furthermore, he boasts the best goals-per-game ratio of any player with 50+ international goals in the last 100 years. With an important clash against Kylian Mbappé and France ahead, both with four goals, the race for the Golden Boot promises to be fierce, especially with Lionel Messi leading the table with one more goal.
