South Korea's national team coach, Hong Myung-bo, officially announced his departure from his position following the team's elimination from the 2026 World Cup. In a statement, he sincerely apologized to the Korean people and stated: "I am stepping down as coach of the national team. However, my passion for Korean football remains unchanged. I will sincerely support our team so that it can once again earn the trust and love of the fans. Accepting the position of coach of the national team was not an easy decision. The only thing I should do is I can't say that each of my decisions was correct. We were unable to deliver the expected results at the World Cup. The South Korean team finished the group stage in third place in Group A, with just three points, and said goodbye to the tournament.
