KNVB seeks new coach: 'We know there is some urgency'


The KNVB thanked Ronald Koeman for his contribution as coach of the Dutch national team. The federation has already started an in-depth evaluation, which will also analyze who should be Oranje's new coach. There is a certain urgency in this process. Following his disappointing World Cup performance, Koeman announced his departure from the national team on Tuesday night. The KNVB respected this decision. "Ronald has dedicated himself completely in recent years and made an important contribution to the national team. On behalf of the KNVB, I thank him for that," commented Nigel de Jong, director of football. On September 24th, the Dutch team has its next match scheduled, against Germany, in the Nations League. "The evaluation announced after the World Cup has already started," continued De Jong. "In this process, we will also consider the coaching vacancy." Koeman's departure was one of the scenarios that was already being considered, according to De Jong. "We know there is a certain urgency, but at the same time we will take the time necessary to make the right choice." Marianne van Leeuwen, director of professional football, also commented on Koeman's departure, who in his own statement also mentioned his wife's health. "Ronald, even in a challenging period for him personally, gave everything for the national team. He always behaved with dignity and professionalism, being an excellent ambassador for the national team. On behalf of the KNVB, we wish Ronald, his wife and his family all the best for the future", he concluded.
