Leeds United are pushing hard to sign Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. The contacts are active and the information came from Italian transfer insider Gianluigi Longari, who revealed on X that Elland Road directors have been looking for the Parma goalkeeper since mid-June. This is a bold and expensive move.

Parma are already preparing for life without Suzuki, having recently signed a young goalkeeper, Giovanni Daffara, with the clear expectation that Suzuki will generate a significant profit. His market value has never been higher, especially after a standout World Cup campaign with Japan. Rival clubs are keeping a close eye on the situation, threatening to turn it into a bidding war, but Leeds United have been at the forefront of negotiations in recent weeks, trying to fend off the competition.

Coach Daniel Farke is looking for a different profile for the goal: a modern and proactive presence. Suzuki presents himself as an ideal option after a solid season in Italy, where he made 20 Serie A appearances, kept five clean sheets and made 66 saves, conceding 28 goals. In addition to his imposing physical presence and control of the area, his distribution is a strong point, initiating counterattacks quickly. Farke demands that his teams build plays from the back, making Suzuki the ideal target to initiate attacks.

To complete the business, a significant investment will be required. Parma know the market is inflated and want at least €30m (around £25.8m) for their most valuable asset. Suzuki's price solidified after he played the full 90 minutes against Brazil in the round of 32 of the World Cup. Leeds need to structure a cash and upfront offer to convince Parma, possibly financing the move by selling squad players such as Lucas Perri. The lure of English football gives Leeds a huge advantage but they cannot afford to delay as richer Premier League clubs such as Aston Villa are watching closely. The club hierarchy must act quickly.
