Maldini set to take over as Italian technical director under new FIGC Malagò president
Paolo Maldini is set to become Italy's technical director under Giovanni Malagò, aiming to improve the connection between the federation and Serie A clubs.
Paolo Maldini is set to take up the role of Italy's technical director under new FIGC president Giovanni Malagò. The Milan idol was identified as the ideal figure to bring the federation closer to Serie A clubs, at a time that Malagò describes as "lucid madness".
According to information from Gazzetta dello Sport, Maldini's appointment is practically confirmed, which makes him the first major part of the Italian football revolution proposed by Malagò. As technical director, Maldini will act as a link between the coaching staff, clubs and players, relieving pressure on the new coach and ensuring a more cohesive structure for national football.

Ricky Massara, Maldini's former teammate and currently Roma's sporting director, is also being considered for a supporting role in Italian football's new structure. The combination of Maldini and Massara would bring considerable experience at the highest levels of Italian and European football, something the federation has been clamoring for.
Malagò has emphasized that the technical director must be appointed before the coach, as the two roles are intrinsically linked. The director must have direct influence on choosing who will lead the Azzurri team. With Maldini ready to take on this role, the next step will be to identify the coach who will work alongside him, a decision that should take a few more weeks.
