Official: Gattuso is Lazio's new coach

Lazio have officially announced the hiring of Gennaro Gattuso as their new coach, replacing Maurizio Sarri. The announcement came after weeks of speculation, as Gattuso was first seen at the team's training center in Formello, Rome, on June 3. During his visit, he discussed transfer strategies with club directors and president Claudio Lotito. The deal already seemed to have been finalized since May 25th, but official confirmation only came this afternoon.


S.S. Lazio S.p.A. has announced that Mr. Gennaro Gattuso has been appointed as the team's head coach. The club welcomed the new commander, expressing confidence that his experience, professionalism and determination will help in the pursuit of Lazio's sporting goals.

Gattuso is believed to have signed a two-year contract with the Aquile, succeeding Maurizio Sarri who has taken on a new role at Atalanta. This is Gattuso's first experience since he stepped down as coach of the Italian national team on April 3 after failing to advance in the World Cup qualifying playoffs, losing on penalties to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Since his managerial debut in 2013 at FC Sion, he has spent time at clubs such as Palermo, OFI Crete, Pisa, Milan, Napoli, Valencia, Olympique Marseille and Hajduk Split. Gattuso was appointed as Italy coach in June 2025, but stayed for less than a year, recording six wins and two defeats.
