Nico Williams opens up about injury and criticizes De La Cruz: "A gesture that could have been avoided"

Today is one of the worst days of my life. Thus begins Nico Williams' long outburst on his social networks. The Spain striker suffered an injury during the match against Uruguay, which could leave him out for a long time, almost certainly for the round of 16 (and maybe even longer).

He shared an emotional outburst: "I injured myself again after a very difficult year, a year in which the pain in my pubic symphysis made me lose many battles, but not the war. I managed to overcome this with a lot of work, sacrifice and, above all, responsibility. It was a year and a half of suffering, sadness, uncertainty and anxiety. I didn't know when I would be able to play again without pain or when I would have a normal life again. I came to live with pain even in simple things like going to the bathroom or going in and out of the car. My priority has always been to be happy again playing football and recover my smile. Because without a smile, without pleasure in playing and without happiness, I couldn't do my best. But then an injury to my biceps femoris came and I stopped smiling again, but I wouldn't let that stop me.

Nico Williams also criticized the author of the move that left him out of action, the Uruguayan De La Cruz: "Yesterday I suffered a new injury due to an action by a colleague, driven by frustration and sadness at the situation I was experiencing. A gesture that, in my opinion, could have been avoided, as it was completely unnecessary. But that won't stop me."

Finally, he made a promise: "I know that God has a plan for me and I will continue to fight until the last to get back to doing what I love most: playing football, being happy and bringing joy to many. From the bottom of my heart, thank you everyone for the messages of support. The story isn't over: we'll see you soon at the World Cup!"
