Tottenham postpones search for new sporting director until after transfer window
Tottenham Hotspur has postponed the search for a new sporting director until after the summer transfer window, prioritizing the current leadership to manage signings.

Tottenham Hotspur have decided to postpone their search for a new sporting director until after the summer transfer window, as reported by The Standard. Since the departure of former sports coordinator Fabio Paratici in February, the club has not found a replacement. Paratici left the club in London to return to Italy and join Fiorentina for family reasons. Since then, Spurs have been linked with a number of high-profile candidates for the role, including former Borussia Dortmund executive Sebastian Kehl and Dougie Freedman. However, Tottenham have made it clear that appointing a new sporting director is not a priority at the moment. The decision was made following a recent meeting of the club's Supporters' Advisory Council. During discussions, CEO Vinai Venkatesham addressed fans' concerns and explained that Tottenham has confidence in the current leadership structure. Rather than bringing in a new executive during a busy transfer period, the club will lean on those already in the team to oversee player signings. Sporting director Johan Lange, coach Roberto De Zerbi and director of football operations Rafi Moersen will work together to manage Tottenham's transfer business throughout the summer. "The club has confidence in our team," said Venkatesham. "But if we find someone who can complement our existing team and make it better, we will do so at the right time (and it is not now, during the summer window). None of the names that appear in the media were in the process with us and turned us down. Many names linked to us we never spoke," he added. After narrowly escaping relegation last season, Spurs are looking to rebuild and move away from the struggles that saw them finish 17th in the Premier League in consecutive campaigns. Much of the focus fell on Lange, whose signing trajectory since his arrival in 2023 has drawn criticism from some fans. However, Venkatesham strongly defended the Danish executive and highlighted the close working relationship between Lange and De Zerbi.
