Gravina: "Mancini asked me to return, but I chose Gattuso. And for me, Rino should have stayed"


Gianluca Gravina, former president of the FIGC, gave an interview to Corriere dello Sport to evaluate his work at the helm of the entity. Among several topics discussed, he spoke about the possible return of coach Roberto Mancini. "Mancini asked me to resume an interrupted path. But I had already chosen Gattuso, who in my opinion should have remained after the match against Bosnia. The choice of coach is up to my successor," he said. Gravina also commented on Silvio Baldini's confirmation requests, which many asked for after the two recent promising friendlies. "He was highly praised. But we need to evaluate the consequences of certain choices. His focus is Olympic qualification, we must be careful not to harm a project that was built with vision," he declared. Finally, he considered the 17 proposals for reforming the championships presented by him: "I would start with Series A and B with 18 teams. And then with the creation of a B2, which would be a transition zone of professionalism, where all the second teams could converge. Lega Pro should be integrated with amateur teams and I would also reform this last world. With the right of veto, however, little can be done."
